Daylight Saving Time Update
2014-03-09 & 2014-11-02

IMPORTANT NOTICE  PLEASE READ

The federal government enacted the Energy Act of 2005 in an effort to reduce the amount of energy used in the United States. This has changed the dates for Daylight Saving Time since 2007.

Smart Clock versions below 3.93 contain a 100-year time clock chip that was programmed before the above legislation. Your Smart Clock version number can be found by disconnecting its power supply, plugging it back in, then reading its display during its self-tests.

Users of Smart Clock versions below 3.93 have the following two options to accommodate for Daylight Saving Time:

OPTION 1

Note: If you have downloaded the DST Setup Program in the past, open the program and skip to Step VI.

  1. Download and install the Smart Clock Daylight Saving Time Program.

Note: The DST Setup Program is intended as a stand-alone software and is not to be copied into any other Smart Clock program folders.

  1. Disable the Daylight Saving Time option on your Smart Clock's main menu.  To enter the menu mode, press and hold the MENU button located on the back of the clock for approximately 20 seconds until the display prompts "SETUP MODE." Press the ENTER button until the "DAYLIGHT" option is displayed. Press the ADVANCE button to switch from "ENABLE" to "DISABLE." Once the setting for Daylight Saving is set to "DISABLE," press the ENTER button to move to the next option and then press the MENU button to save the setting.
  1. Open the DST program by clicking on the Windows Start button > All Programs > Auto DST Update For Smart Clocks > dst.exe.
  1. Once the program is open, click "Browse" > "Communication Lines." The "Browse Communication Lines" window will open. Add communication lines for your Smart Clocks. These settings should match those that were entered in your Out-of-the-Box™, Precious Time, or Stand Alone Communication Software. Click the "OK" button and close the "Browse Communication Lines" window once completed.
  1. Click "Browse" > "Clock Configurations." The "Browse Clocks" window will open. These settings should match those that were entered in your Out-of-the-Box™, Precious Time, or Stand Alone Communication Software. Click the "OK" button and close the "Browse Clocks" window once completed.
  1. Click "Setup" > " Daylight Saving." The "Browse DST Configuration" window will open. Click the "Add" button to open the "Update DST Configuration" window. Enter this year's Daylight Saving Time dates and times. In order to avoid any conflict with your Windows' operating system changing the time on your PC, we recommend that you set the time to change a few minutes prior to 2:00 A.M.
  1. Although the official time change is effective at 2:00 A.M., you may enter an alternate date and time. Be sure entered time is scheduled before your first hourly employee clocks in.
  1. The DST Setup Program must remain open and all other Smart Clock software must remain closed during your scheduled date and time. The DST Setup Program can be closed once settings have taken effect.

OPTION 2

  1. Poll your Smart Clock(s) of all its punch data before the time change.
  1. Confirm in your Out-of-the-Box™ or Precious Time Software that all of the punches were recorded before Daylight Saving Time. If any punches were taken after the time change, they must be manually corrected within the software.
  1. The Smart Clock's time will be synchronized to your PC's time. Ensure that your PC's time is correct.
  1. Out-of-the-Box™ and Precious Time users can set the time on their Smart Clock by opening the program and clicking "Utility" > "Perform Clock I/O." The "Clock Interface" window will open. Select your clock number using the drop-down list and click "Connect."
  1. Click the "Set Date/Time" button. If successful, your Smart Clock should now display the correct time and date.

Note: This process must be completed for every Daylight Saving Time date.

SMART CLOCK VERSIONS 3.93 OR ABOVE

Users of Smart Clock versions 3.93 or above have the ability to use the "Daylight Saving" button in the Perform Clock I/O window to download the start and end dates/times for Daylight Saving Time each year.

Note: Ensure that you are using the latest version of our software by visiting the Upgrade page on SmartClock.com.

Once downloaded to the Smart Clock, the clock will automatically adjust the time at those pre-determined times without the need to change the time by hand or the Daylight Saving Time Program. Please refer to your manual or program's built-in Help system for more details.

Note: The Daylight Saving Time settings must be downloaded to each Smart Clock every year in order for it to change the time on the appropriate dates. Check back on this webpage every year for more details.
